How to make a WhatsApp QR code

  1. 1

Enter the WhatsApp number customers should reach.

  2. 2

Add an opening message and a caption under the code, if you want them.

  3. 3

Pick a print size and download the PNG - or the SVG for banners and large prints.

Printing one that actually scans

A QR code fails for boring reasons, and almost always the same three: it was printed too small for the distance, it was stretched from a low-resolution image, or something covered a corner. The three square eyes and the quiet white margin around the code are not decoration — a scanner finds the code by them, so a sticker over the edge or a design that crops the margin kills it.

For size, the working rule is one tenth of the scanning distance. Read from 30 cm across a table, 3 cm is plenty. Read from across a shop, 3 m away, you want 30 cm. Print bigger than you think: nobody walks closer to a code they are not sure about.

Put a line of text beside it saying what happens next — “Scan to order”, “Scan for the menu”. A bare code on a wall is a gamble people often decline. And test the printed sheet with two phones, an Android and an iPhone, before you order a hundred of them.

Questions people ask

What does a WhatsApp QR code do?

Scanning it opens a WhatsApp chat with your number, with your message already typed in. It is a wa.me link in printable form, so it works from a table tent, a shop board, a visiting card or a parcel sticker.

What size should I print it?

A rough rule: the code should be about a tenth of the distance people scan from. A table tent read at 30 cm is fine at 3 cm; a shop board read from 3 m wants 30 cm. Download the large PNG or the SVG for anything bigger than a card - a small PNG blown up goes blurry and stops scanning.

PNG or SVG?

PNG for screens, WhatsApp forwards and quick prints. SVG for a printer, a banner or anything a designer will resize, because it stays sharp at any size. The SVG is the code alone, without the caption line.

Does the code expire?

No. It is a plain link, not an account feature, so it keeps working as long as that WhatsApp number is active. Change your number and you need a new code - which is worth remembering before printing a thousand of them.

Is this the same as the QR code inside WhatsApp Business?

Close, and it does the same job. The one in the app points at your profile; this one is a wa.me link you control, so you can put a specific first message behind it - a different message per poster, per table or per product.

Is my number uploaded anywhere?

No. The code is drawn in your browser. Nothing is sent to us, stored or logged.

Beyond the free tool

The code brings them in. What happens after is the actual work.

Every scan starts a chat you have 24 hours to answer. A shared inbox so your team sees it, auto-replies outside shop hours, and templates to follow up later — that is the part AiOneChat does.
